Aim:
The aim of this assessment event is two-fold. From the academic perspective, this assignment will allow you to familiarise yourself with the necessary skills and habits to conduct a literature review. At the same time, this assessment experience is a hands-on approach to collaborative team work, evaluation and critical analysis, and develop skills in building a case for your views.
The task:
By now, you would have formed your ‘business team’ for Assignment 3. Working as a team, you are to collaborate in finding the necessary resources for this assignment, feed the information into the master spreadsheet, and use it for your individual part of the assignment.
Assignment requirement:
A: Group output: A master spreadsheet containing a critical analysis of scholarly peer reviewed journal articles related to the topic that the team has selected. This part carries 15% of the course weight.
B: Individual: A literature review, in essay format. This part is worth 15% of the course weight.
To perform this task, you are required to:

Assignment 3a: Building the services marketing knowledge model (25%)
Aim:
This assessment event will draw on all the knowledge that you are continually gaining, to build the services marketing knowledge model as your team sees it. Building on the skills that you are gaining, this assignment will start you on the process of problem identification in a service environment, and direct your problem-skills from an S-D Logic perspective. The Business Model Generation tool canvas will be your tool in this exercise.
The task:
As a team, you would have selected the organisation or service to work on as your final project. You and your team are to follow these steps to complete the assignment:
1. Starting from Week 5, identify the ‘service elements’ and/or events where exchanges of service – the exchange of competences (knowledge and skills) that occur in the various building blocks of the Business Model canvas.
2. Target to finish two blocks per week, and by Week 9, the team would have completed the draft canvas. [Note: The last 30 minutes of each class for Weeks 5-9 is set aside for group discussion and arbitration.]
3. Once this is completed, critically appraise the entries on the canvas. Evaluate and keep what is critical/useful/valuable and relevant to complete the final project report, and discard what is irrelevant.
4. When the team is satisfied, complete the canvas by identifying all the possible problems and impediments that can create service failure, using the Service Gap model. List the problems in a word document, maximum three pages, with appropriate sub-heads and numbering.
5. Submit it as the group’s final document, in fulfilment of Assignment 3a, to Turnitin. In view of possible image distortions, please submit a hard copy (in A3 size, landscape format) of your team’s Business Model Canvas in class, by 13 June 2014, 11.59pm.
