Where is the info on the assignment?
The guide to your assignment is in your unit guide (downloadable from the portal) on pages 11 & 12.
Where is the Marking Guide for the assignment?
This is located in the portal. Please attach a copy of this to your assignment before submission.
What is included in the word count?
Everything except graphs, tables, in-text references (citations) and your reference list are included in the word count. Direct quotes, headings and sub-headings; ARE all included in the word count.
Do we have 10% lee-way on the word count?
As with all assessment pieces in this unit we do provide you with the ‘10% lee-way’ on your word count. Anything beyond this will not be marked.
What format should I use for the assignment?
This is a report and so should include an introduction and conclusion. It would be good to utilise headings and sub-headings where appropriate. Please ensure you print your work out in 12pt font and one and a half line spacing.
Your reference list needs to be included at the back of your assignment on a separate page with all your references in alphabetical order (do not separate out by ‘type of reference’). See the referencing chapter in your Study Guide and Reader for further information.
Can I use subheadings?
Subheadings are a great way to concisely lay out your assignment. You can come up with your own sub-headings, but use the unit guide and criteria sheet to guide this process.
Can I use graphs and tables from other reports/documents?
It would be a good idea to include graphs and tables in your assignment to illustrate rates of diabetes among Australian adults. You can copy and paste graphs and tables directly from another document/report/journal article into your assignment or you can create your own from a variety of sources. Make sure you reference where this information comes from!
Make sure your graphs and tables are clear to the reader, both in terms of image clarity, font size, label and title of graph/table (put your own numbers ie. Table 1, then Table 2 and so on), and references.
How do I reference?
Using the Harvard Referencing style - see the referencing chapter in your Study Guide and Reader.
Are newspaper articles a credible reference?
Not really as the media can often hype the information up, provide incorrect information or information that is not valuable or credible. You should not be referencing them for this assignment. The only time they are useful is when they discuss reports/statistics which you can then chase up and read in their entirety.
What is an online reference?
Online references are references that are only available online, be sure to check the study guide for the appropriate way to reference these (hint: make sure you list the complete URL for the webpage you retrieved the information from and the date you accessed it).
