Nowadays, people live and work under great stress. Stress is a double-edged sword in people’s life and work. The good quality of life and work should properly balance the stress. This paper aims to investigate what the effects of stress are and what people can do to reduce stress.
The stress in people’s life and work is like a coin with two sides, summarized from Tricia Ellis-Christensen (2010). On the one hand, stress has its merits. The stress can stimulate people’s performance in their work, because under proper stress people can perform their extraordinary competence to undertake the assignment. The good mood and appropriately usage of stress can stimulate people’s potential ability. Besides, Healey (2009, p.7) asserts that a certain level of stress is necessary to function and to motivate people to arrive their full potential. For example, under the stress of Nazi’s attack in World War II, Winston Churchill guided the Britain army changing the adverse situation in order to win the battles with the Nazi. Under the global financial crisis, the White House conducted effective measures to smoothly overcome the hard time. However, on the other hand, stress has its demerits. Under most circumstance is considered as an obstacle in people life and work due to its negative power. The cumulative negative influences on people will lead to serious health problems. The chronic stress is dangerous to people’s health, such as heart disease, quick breathing, redirection of blood flow, blood clot, etc. The great stress will worsen people’s strategy in competition or at work. To sum up, stress has positive and negative effects on people.
Under stress, people are not incompetence. On the contrary, people can do various measures to reduce stress and have a good mood. First and foremost, people should recognize what stress is. The stress is from behavioral, emotional, physical, and cognitive aspects. Finding for the cause of the stress can reduce the time to cure it. Furthermore, nutrition can help people reduce their tension, because it is investigated that stress is from the exhaustion, and depletion of vitamins and minerals. Moreover, physical exercise can help people forget their stress, because when you concentrate to do one thing you will forget the others. Besides the physical exercise, the other relaxation ways are also helpful to reduce the stress of people, such as reading a booking, playing computer games, making handcraft, fishing, gardening, planting, chatting with friends, drawing, etc. In the relaxation process, people can enjoy themselves. In addition, the realistic thinking is aided in reduction of people’s stress. The realistic thinking means think before you leap. While you feel stressed, you can ask yourself what makes you feel in this way, how it is likely to occur, what the worst possible outcome is, etc. The well known of the cause of stress can help you conduct yourself in a reasonable direction. What’s more, the well control and organize one’s time can lead people to success and reduce the worries for lost a game. Besides, the mood sharing and coping with the other are also effective to reduce stress. The above mentioned points are the psychological and mood treatment. Someone asserts that medication can also help people to calm down and feel less stress. However, it is shown that certain medications will shorten people’s life. Thus, the medical treatment to stress should be careful and caution.
Conclusion
As a conclusion, although stress is harmful to people’s health, the properly use of stress can trigger people’s extraordinary performance to fulfill their missions. People can use the psychological and medical treatment to reduce their stress.
